GE 9 - Unit 2: Agree Disagree

Agree
Disagree
I see what you mean.
I see your point.
I suppose that’s true, actually.
That’s a good point.
You might be right there.
Well, I cannot argue with that.
I suppose you have got a point there.

I don’t know about that.
I cannot really see the point of …(forcing kids to eat).
Oh, do you think so?
Oh, I wouldn’t say that.
Well, I am still not convinced.

Phrase with but to challenge the other person’s opinion.

I see what you mean but I think it is much better to let them eat when they want.

I don’t think children should eat fast food like burgers.

Oh, I don’t know about that. Surely, if it is not allowed they will just want to eat it more, won’t they?

That is a good point, but fatty food is so bad for children.

I see what you mean, but not if they only get a little bit now and then.

You might be right there,- I give my kids burger or pizzas on Saturday, but they eat healthy food quite happily all the other days, which is what all parents want.

Well, I cannot argue with that. What about fizzy drinks?

I let mine have what they like, you know, lemonade cola. I cannot really see the point of forcing them to drink water all day. A bit of sugar gives tm energy and it doesn’t do any harm.

Oh, do you think so? Sugar makes children fat.

I suppose you have got a point there.

Well, I am still not convinced. My kids run about all day and they are not overweight.

Yes, I see your point. But what about all the chemicals they put in those drinks? Some of them are very bad for you, I think.

Oh, I wouldn’t say that. Most of that stuff is harmless. If it was dangerous, they couldn’t put it in the drinks, could they?

I suppose that is true, actually.

Example:
I wasn’t strict about many things, but I was strict about bedtime. I think children under eight should go to bed at seven.
Oh, do you think so? Why not let them go to bed when they are tired.

I don’t know about that. Kids never admit they are tired.
That is a good point. Any kids like routines.

You might be right there.
Well, I cannot really see the point of forcing kids to go to bed.

But if you don’t, parents never have any time on their own.
I see what you mean. But I am still not convinced. As a working mum, I’d hardly ever see my kids if they went to bed at seven.

But if they’re up late, they will get bad- tempered.
Yes, you cannot argue with that.

Yes, I suppose that is true actually. But anyway it is too late to change now.

Oh, I wouldn’t say that. It is never too late.

Schools holidays are much too long.
You might be right there. They are certainly difficult for many working parents.
Oh, do you think so ? Kids need a break from studying.

Holidays are always better abroad.
I see your point. They are more interesting.
Oh, I wouldn’t say that. You spend too much of your holiday travelling.

Travelling by train is more relaxing than driving.
Well, I cannot argue with that. You can sit and read a book.
Well, I am still not convinced . you don’t always get a seat.

It is better for kids to read books thatn watch TV.
That is a good point. They have to use their imagination more.
Oh, I wouldn’t say that. It takes too long to finish a book.
