The English Verb System
3 aspects refer to how the speaker sees the event or
situation: simple – continuous – perfect.
1. The Simple Aspect
Use simple forms to talk about things that are: repeated,
permanent, or completed.
Permanent = More people speak English than any other
languages.
Repeated = He always recommends people use Globish.
Completed = We visited an acting class.
2. The Continuous Aspect
Use continuous verb forms to talk about things that are: in
progress – temporary – unfinished.
In progress = A student was pretending to be an actor.
Temporary = The way people study English is changing.
Unfinished = The government has been building English
immersion school.
3. The Perfect Aspect
Use perfect verb forms to talk about things that connect
two different time periods (the past and the present, etc).
English has become the dominant language of international
business.
A recent report suggested that the number of non native
speakers had already reached 2 billions.
