Adverbs vs Adjectives - EC 3 - 1





Verb + manner adverb
Adjective + noun
Be, feel, get + adjective
I wait patiently in lines.

He doesn’t sing very well.

He drives very fast.

She drives carefully.

I am a patient person.

He is not a good singer.

He is a fast driver.

She is a careful driver.
I am patient.

His voice sounds terrible.

He gets reckless sometimes.

I feel safe with her.

But I feel strongly about it.


The most common -ly manner adverbs are:
Quickly, easily, differently, automatically, slowly, properly, badly, strongly, and carefully.

Opinions about modern life.

Young people don’t dress properly these days.
They don’t wear appropriate clothes.

Parents see things very differently from their children, so families argue a lot.

Young people don’t know how to speak correctly.
They use a lot of slang.

Nobody feels safe on the highways because people drive too fast and reckless.

On buses, people seem very rude.
They don’t automatically give their seats to older people.

People are getting very impatient.
They expect you to answer their e-mails immediately.

I think young people dress properly here.’
I mean, they often dress causally, but that is OK.

Notice how – perhatikan bahwa.

Do you try hard to get to very class?
Or do you sometimes skip classes?

Do you listen to the teacher carefully?
Or do you often think about other thins?

Do you do your homework properly?
Or do you just do it quickly.

Di you learn grammar easily?
Or do you have to work hard at it?


Di you write down new words automatically?
Or di oy just try to remember them?

I listen to people carefully.
I am a quiet person.

I get impatient in long lines.
I take school and work very serious.
