Modal - would rather than & prefer to

If you have a car, you can travel around Indonesia.

During class the student must sit quietly.

When the students have questions, they must raise their hand.

When you send the brochure, you should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

A film director must have control over every aspect of a movie.

When I was child, I could go to the roof of my house and see all the other houses and streets.

While I was working in the fields, my son would bring me oranges or candy.

I broke my leg in a soccer game three months ago.

Would you please help me with this.

We are supposed to bring our books to class every day.

Many students would rather study on their own than go to classes.

Many students prefer studying on their own to going to classes.

1. Would you like something else or shall I ask for the bill?
He could be in a restaurant.

2. I’d like it a bit shorter please, but not too much.
She must be at the hairdresser’s.

She must be shattered.

4. GIRL: Have you got the sun cream?
BOY: No. You were supposed to bring it.
They might be on the beach.

5. BOY   I’m sorry I’m late, Miss Pringle. Dad had to drive slowly because er ... the road was very er ... icy.

TEACHER: Icy? It’s the middle of summer!
He must be lying.

6.  MAN: This present’s from my mother. What do you think it is? It’s very heavy.
WOMAN: Well, open it and find out!
It can’t be a tie.
