CARL      Did you have a good time in Berlin, Rachel?

RACHEL Well, it was OK but I had a few problems.

CARL      Really? What happened?

RACHEL Well, I was supposed to stay in Alex’s flat.

CARL      Yes, you told me.

RACHEL I mean, I’d been in touch with him the week before and I was supposed to meet him when I landed – at the airport. But he wasn’t there.

CARL      What did you do?

RACHEL Well, I have another friend in Berlin, who I thought I could stay with. But she wasn’t around either. So in the end I had to find a hotel.

CARL      Oh dear.

RACHEL Yes. It was expensive. I was going to stay for two weeks, but I had to come back after a week because I didn’t have enough money.

CARL      And so what happened to Alex?

RACHEL Well, I got an email from him. Apparently, he had to leave Berlin urgently. He was away for ten days. He was going to phone to let me know, but he lost my number.

CARL      Did he say anything else?

RACHEL Not really, only that he’d like to stay in my flat when he comes to London!

CARL      Ah, right!
