Quantities of food

A little = a few = some
Very little = very few = not a lot
Less = fewer
Not much = aren’t many

We have a little butter in the fridge.
We have a few slices of cheese.
There is very little food.
We eat very few frozen meals.
I am trying to eat less fat.
Skim milk has fewer calories.
There is not much food in the house.
There aren’t many vegetables.



Food containers / items
A carton of juice.
A loaf of bread.

A carton of eggs
A quart of milk
A pound of hamburger
a loaf of bread
a bottle of soy sauce
a jar of hot peppers


Weights and measures
A liter of / a quart of (1.1)
A kilo of / a pound of (2.2)


It is good to eat a few nuts every day.
They are very healthy.

A little chocolate can be good for you.
It can improve your mood.

If you eat fewer carbohydrates and a little more fat and protein,
You will lose weight more quickly.

A cup of green tea every day is good for your general health.


You should try to eat nine portions of fresh fruit and vegetables every day.

Eating less food can help you live longer.

Plenty of  too much too many not enough a few - a little several - hardly any loads of a lot of – no – a bit of
